How does PetriEye
work?

1. Sample

Cultivate a sample on the desired agar and place a plate on the desired background.

2. Put it in the box

Cover the agar plate with PetriEye BOX and turn on the lightbox.

3. Take a photo

Take an image of the agar plate with your camera or smartphone.

How accurate are the results?

PetriEye uses standardized protocols and quality-control (QC) checkpoints. For most routine veterinary cases, accuracy is comparable to a POC laboratory; for rare pathogens or complex cases, we recommend confirmation in a reference laboratory.

What are the main limitations?

The system does not cover viral, fungal and anaerobic pathogens (these require specific methods). In mixed cultures, a repeat sampling or additional separation may be required; samples with low bacterial load can require longer incubation.

Is it aligned with principles of responsible antibiotics use (AMR)?

Yes. PetriEye supports targeted therapy and documented decision-making, reducing empirical antibiotic use. This contributes to better treatment outcomes and lowers the risk of resistance development.

What do I need besides the device?

You will use prepared media/plates, antibiogram panels, and QC materials. We supply everything directly or via partners; consumable bundles are available based on testing volume.

Purchasing model and licensing?

You can purchase the device with a maintenance subscription or opt for a bundled service (device + software + support). Volume discounts and tailored agreements are available for larger clinics and farms.

Does it work without internet?

No, a basic Wi-Fi or internet connection is required to run your analysis.

Can we export data?

Absolutely—PDF report export, CSV/Excel for data analyses, and API integrations with your systems (by arrangement) are supported. You can also set up automatic report delivery via email.

How demanding is maintenance?

Routine chamber cleaning and regular self-tests ensure reliable operation. A maintenance guide is included, and our support team is available for advice and process optimization.
